On July 10, 2024, six Los Angeles restaurants and one Santa Barbara restaurant were included in Michelin’s California Dining Guide. A total of 13 restaurants are “recommended” in California that may later achieve Bib Gourmand status or even receive an actual Michelin star at the California Michelin Guide Awards Ceremony on August 5 in Half Moon Bay, California.
New restaurants added to Michelin’s July listing across the region include Barra Santos in Glassell Park, Dambi, which opened just three months ago, sourdough pizza joint Gras, chef Josh Skenes’ Leopard, Mae Malai Thai House of Noodles in Thai Town, and Stella in West Hollywood, from restaurateur Janet Zuccarini and chef Rob Gentile. Silver’s Omakase, which opened in February 2024 in Santa Barbara, also joined Michelin’s “recommended” list.

The Michelin team last added Southern California restaurants to the “Discoveries” category in March, adding Funke, Quarter Seat and Pollo a la Brasa, a longtime Peruvian eatery in Koreatown. All selections, whether “Discoveries” or “Recommendations,” come in preparation for the organization’s annual ceremony next month. According to Michelin, inspectors classify “Recommendations” by spotlighting local eateries within a city, while “Discoveries” showcase new and exciting restaurant talent across the state.
Los Angeles has just one new Michelin star coming in 2023, at chef Phil Pretty’s tasting-menu restaurant Heritage in Long Beach.
