While the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) has many people feeling anxious these days, there’s no doubt that AI brings with it many exciting possibilities.
Recently, an AI tricked Katy Perry’s mother into thinking she was at the Met Gala when in fact she wasn’t. However, the rise of technology is bringing opportunities into new territories that were previously unreachable.
At UNILAD, we are looking to the future, and AI has made it possible.
It is a clever prediction of what the future holds for humanity.
We decided to ask the AI program Midjourney to create some mock photos of what we might look like in 1,000 years.
And unfortunately, the results have been pretty horrifying.
For starters, it looks like the future of fashion will involve covering our faces with a web of wires and spinning motors.
So the AI has basically decided that the human face has become absorbed under the technology.
This is a truly frightening prediction. (UNILAD/Midjourney)
This has some rather disturbing implications for our relationship with technology throughout this millennium, as images of AI seem to suggest that it has us firmly in captivity.
This man from the year 3000 A.D. appears to have sacrificed some facial skin to embrace all of this futuristic technology, and frankly, it’s very unsettling.
Although he doesn’t look particularly happy, the AI seems confident in its prediction that this is what we’ll look like about 1,000 years from now, and sticks to it in other images it creates.
A similar network of wires appears to have been woven around this poor soul’s face, although curiously, the skin appears to be left intact – but that doesn’t make the results any less pleasant.
I think we all hope that doesn’t happen. (UNILAD/Midjourney)
Maybe society’s beauty standards in 1000 years will look something like this: you have to flaunt how many wires you can attach to your face, and having skin on your face will be optional.
If this is the future of beauty, I’m not interested. But even the AI-generated images of what our future will look like without the “wires in our faces” approach are pretty terrifying.
What on earth are the two creatures in the middle of the bottom row? (UNILAD/Midjourney)
Among the results we see some normal faces, and in two central places in the bottom row, Morlocks.
At the moment, I think AI is trawling the depths of science fiction for ideas, which means that what it thinks we might become in the future may be heavily influenced by our own suggestions.
Let’s hope the AI is wrong on this one.
