What you need to know
“WE ARE: PST ART Explosion Event” by Cai Guo-Qiang. The daytime event will be the opening of “PST ART: Art & Science Collide,” a multi-exhibition art event, taking place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on September 15, 2024. The event will be “the first large-scale daytime fireworks event in U.S. history to feature a fleet of drones carrying pyrotechnic products.”
In recent years, the splendor of dazzling drone shows has been enjoyed by many show-lovers, especially those who are attracted to innovative, eye-catching and flashy shows.
At large events, the technology is often used to create memorable, magical sky shows – patterned presentations that look up and have a slightly fantastical, futuristic feel.
Gloria Molina Grand Park’s massive 2024 Fourth of July Independence Day festival just featured a drone show, with more shows planned.
Some of it happens in broad daylight in a truly surreal way.
“WE ARE: Explosion Event for PST ART,” taking place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on September 15, is set to be “the first large-scale daytime fireworks event in U.S. history to feature a fleet of drones equipped with pyrotechnic products.”
Created by artist Cai Guo-Qiang, the spectacular show marks the grand opening of “PST ART: Art & Science Collide” (formerly known as Pacific Standard Time).
This gigantic show takes place high above the Coliseum, where a colorful symphony of vibrant ideas fills the air.
While “WE ARE” is not a traditional fireworks display, organizers are urging spectators to think of the sun-filled show as “daytime fireworks.”
“The daytime fireworks are a signature form of Tsai’s art that uses organic and sustainable pigments and dyes rather than traditional fireworks, and will be devised and choreographed by the artist in collaboration with a custom AI model, cAI ™ (pronounced AI Cai), and launched with the help of more than 1,000 aerial drones.”
This large-scale art event features dozens of exhibitions at venues throughout Southern California.
This grand kickoff will be followed by a flurry of exhibitions across the region, including “Cai Guo-Qiang: A Material Journey” at the University of Southern California’s Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena.
