This series across Europe highlights the benefits that digitalisation brings to individuals, societies and the environment.
DÜSSELDORF, Germany, July 5, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The first episode of the three-part documentary series “Being Digi-Sapiens” was released today by Warner Bros. Discovery. In the series, Swedish inventor, roboticist and YouTuber Simone Gietz travels across Europe to see how technology is transforming our daily lives. The series was produced with the support of Huawei, and covers a wide range of digital innovations that go well beyond the brand’s products.
Interpreting your body’s data is like communicating with yourself
The first episode, “Connecting with Ourselves,” explores the impact of digital technology in our homes, health and hospitals. After starting in a high-tech, fiber-optic-connected home in Bonn, which boasts “the fastest Internet connection in Germany,” Simone heads to a state-of-the-art sports and health laboratory to see first-hand how both professional and amateur athletes are benefiting from cutting-edge data collection. Finally, Simone visits Barcelona’s historic Santa Creu i Sant Pau Hospital for a crash course in how the latest technology is being used to help patients more effectively.
“The idea of becoming ‘Digi-Sapiens’ represents the next step in human evolution, where digital technology enhances our innate capabilities and expands what we can achieve. This documentary aims to help audiences understand the potential of thoughtful and creative embrace of technology, highlighting how technology can improve our lives, solve real-world problems and open up new opportunities,” said Vikram Channa, vice president and head of content and product, Warner Bros. Discovery Greater China and Southeast Asia.
In the next two episodes, Simone will travel to more European countries to explore how technology is helping us connect with our communities and our environment.
Smart home in Bonn, Germany
Huawei’s Fiber-to-The-Room (FTTR) demo house in Bonn allows visitors to experience what it would be like to live in a world where the network always responds at the speed of light, no matter how much data is transmitted or where you are in the building. Simone uses the opportunity to set up a video call with herself. But her experiment is suddenly interrupted by a digital poltergeist…
Wearable Health and Fitness Technology in Helsinki, Finland
Elite athletes rely heavily on technology to accurately measure and optimize their performance. The results are improved stride length and endurance in runners, more efficient swimming strokes, and better weight balance on each foot when skiing. But it’s not just elite athletes who benefit: At Huawei’s state-of-the-art lab in Helsinki, Simone discovered from her wearable data that her biological age is younger than her chronological age. She also sprinted on a treadmill to test the maximum capacity of her lungs.
Sant Pau Hospital, Barcelona, Spain
Hospital Sant Pau may be old, but it’s far from outdated. The hospital has implemented cutting-edge technology that helps improve patient care. As Simone tours Hospital Sant Pau’s Dimension Lab, researching the application of VR in medicine, a doctor hands her an exact replica of a human heart, made on a 3D printer. Simone had no idea it was so big…
Since 2020, Huawei has been Hospital de Sant Pau’s key strategic partner for state-of-the-art storage systems. Huawei provided Hospital de Sant Pau with an all-flash storage solution that allows medical staff to access patient data almost instantly when needed. The solution features the latest backup, recovery, and anti-ransomware technologies to ensure the highest level of patient data protection.
