Tomorrow is decision day for 2025 Georgia Tech wide receiver prospect Isaiah Mizell. Could the Yellow Jackets add another blue-chip freshman to the Class of 2025? Mizell is choosing between Georgia Tech, Arizona, Kansas State and Syracuse.
The Yellow Jackets don’t appear to be on the hook for Mizell, who was projected to transfer to Georgia Tech last week. Last week, Rivals’ Kelly Quinlan released a future prediction that Mizell would transfer to Arizona, and now the entire recruiting world is predicting that Mizell will transfer to the Wildcats. 247Sports Georgia Tech analyst Rod McKenzie also projects Mizell to transfer to Arizona. While the prediction could be wrong, it looks like Mizell will transfer to another university heading into decision day.
Even if they don’t land Mizell, it would still be a strong class for Georgia Tech, as the Yellow Jackets’ class is currently ranked 25th nationally and fourth in the ACC behind Miami, Clemson and SMU.
Below is an analysis of Mizell from All Yellow Jackets recruiting reporter Najeh Wilkins.
“Mizell received offers from 15 schools in total before narrowing down his top choices. In terms of his production on the football field, Mizell was a great player for Boone. He finished with 49 catches for 1,057 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior. Those 22 touchdowns are a school single-season record. According to the 247Sports Composite, Mizell is ranked as the No. 128 player in the state of Florida, the No. 159 WR and the No. 1001 player nationally.
Roll the tape and you’ll see Mizell’s speed down the field, as he’s not only a deep-ball threat with a quick release and speed off the line that allows him to get behind defenses.
He’s also good at getting touchdowns on short hitches, slants and screen passes. He doesn’t do much shake-and-bake when he touches the ball, instead Mizell makes one cut and then makes his way downfield and turns on the afterburners.
Mizell received an offer from Georgia Tech on April 1. He took his official visit to campus the weekend of June 7-9, which was a big weekend for the Yellow Jackets, as after that weekend the Yellow Jackets landed six new recruits that weekend alone, including Sam Turner, Darren Penson, Kevin Peay, Connor Rausch, Phoenix Felton and Jamauri Brice.
In terms of how he fits into the Yellow Jackets’ schemes, he’ll likely be used in the slot or kick return game, but could also be used all over the field. Georgia Tech will likely use his speed and route-running ability to win one-on-one situations in single coverage and be a reliable playmaker in the middle of the field. In the return game, he’ll be a big help to the Yellow Jackets in flipping the field and creating good field position for their dynamic offense. Mizell scored touchdowns on two kick returns during his junior season.
If Mizell attends Georgia Tech, he will become the fourth wide receiver in the 2025 class, joining Turner, Brice and Cal Faulkner.
