ZANESVILLE, Ohio – United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties plans to invest more than $567,000 into community programs over the next 12 months.
Katie Grubbs, community impact coordinator for the United Way, said $510,320 came from the annual fundraising campaign and another $57,138 came from emergency food and shelter programs.
She said they partner with 17 local programs and 17 community partners to improve the health, education and economic stability of everyone in the county.
“We’re partnering with a variety of agencies to impact these three pillars,” Grubbs said, “One of the agencies we’re partnering with today is SEAT, and we’re really excited about impacting access to health care. This is something SEAT is really passionate about, and their mission is to help people get to health care with transportation covered if they can’t get to appointments in their own car or can’t afford the transportation costs.”
The United Way presented Southeast Area Transit with a check for $12,000 for medical travel expenses.
SEAT transportation director Howard Stewart said the grant will help plug gaps in areas where funding is needed.
“Operationally, we’re only funded 50 percent, so we have to come up with a 50 percent local contribution. A lot of people don’t understand that, so we take the opportunity to educate people on that,” Stewart said. “So this funding will act as a local contribution to help us complete transportation, particularly out-of-town transportation for individuals.”
