Slowly but surely, the 2024-25 Virginia Tech men’s basketball schedule is taking shape, with ACC play to be announced at a later date, but non-conference play will officially begin this summer.
The Hokies currently have a non-conference game against Penn State in Baltimore, Maryland on Nov. 15 as part of the Hall of Fame Series, a home game against Jacksonville on Nov. 20, a home game against Vanderbilt facing former teammates Tyler Nickel and MJ Collins on Dec. 4 as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge, and an away game against St. Joseph at The Palestra on Dec. 21 as part of the 2024 Holiday Hoopfest. Two more games were officially announced Wednesday as part of the Fort Myers tipoff just before Thanksgiving.
It was announced last November that Virginia Tech would participate in the 2024 Fort Myers Tip-Off, and the matchup was officially released on Wednesday. There will be two four-team brackets, the Palms Division and the Beach Division, with the Hokies in the Beach Division and facing Michigan. The Wolverines will be playing under first-year head coach Dusty May. May’s Florida Atlantic University will face the Hokies for the second consecutive year after beating Virginia Tech 84-50 in the finals of the 2023 ESPN Events Invitational last November.
The other Beach Division game is between South Carolina and Xavier, with the winner and loser meeting two days later on Nov. 27. This will be the seventh meeting between Michigan and Virginia Tech, with the Wolverines winning six of those games but the Hokies winning the last two.
